Marinade Ingredients:

  • Tofu (used Muriginns)
  • 1 Onion – big pieces
  • 1 Capsicum -big pieces
  • 1 cup Soycurd (used Chetran’s)
  • 1/2 tsp garlic
  • 1/2 tsp ginger
  • Spice powders- 1/2 tsp haldi, 1/2 tsp chilly
  • 1 tsp coriander, 1/2 tsp cumin, 1/2 tsp garam masala
  • 1/2 tsp kasuri methi
  • Salt
  • 1/4 tsp oil

Gravy Ingredients:

  • 1 onion finely chopped
  • 3-4 tomatoes pureed
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1/2 tsp ginger
  • 1/2 tsp garlic
  • Spice powders – 1/2 tsp each of haldi, chilly, cumin & 1 tsp coriander
  • 1/4 tsp garam masala
  • 1/2 tsp kasuri methi crushed


  1. Marinate the tofu pieces in the marinade. Keep aside for 1/2 hour.
  2. Heat a little oil & saute the tofu mix. Keep on low heat to cook till it dries up.
  3. In another pan, heat a little oil, add cumin seeds, onion and saute.
  4. Add ginger & garlic, saute.
  5. Add all the spice powders except garam masala. Cook for 2-3 mins.
  6. Add the tomato puree. Let it simmer on low heat for 5 mins.
  7. Add kasuri methi, garam masala, salt to taste.
  8. Add the tofu mix. Cook for a min.
  9. Add coriander leaves.


To add Smokey flavour (optional)-

  1. Heat 2-3 pieces of coal over gas. Put in a bowl & add few drops of oil.
  2. Place this bowl in the tofu masala dish & cover so the smoke flavour gets into the tofu.
